Tribute to Charlotte

I answered an advertisement on Gumtree this morning to someone that had found a little budgie and wanted a person to give her a home.

Today was Tube Strike Day in London but this did not stop me racing over to Tottenham Court Road station on the underground with a little carry-box with millet, trill and a space for some water, also a folded t-shirt for the budgie to sit on.

Unfortunately the little budgie had already passed away before I arrived, she was a sweet looking little blue budgie – don’t know how long she had been outside for.  Did she get free from an aviary or someone’s home? – guess I’ll never know.

We called her Charlotte after the name of the street she came from.

Rest in Peace little Charlotte.

Here is a pic of her that was emailed to me by the guys that found her just after they posted the advert.

Here are Monty and Eric from back in November 2009. Monty darted out of his carry box as soon as we placed it in the cage but Eric held back for a while.

Roswell has always been a bit of a looker as you can see.  Here he is from back in January when my husband brought him and Snowy home.

Even thought we got them at the same time from the same breeder they did not get on at first, thankfully they do now – most of the time.

Jerry was rocking back and forth in his cardboard carry box when I first put it down on the sofa as I opened the cage doors.

He sprung out of the box when I placed it in the cage and went straight to the mirror and started singing and bashing away at it.

It was obvious from the start that he was a bit of a live-wire!

In the pet shop that we got Jerry from he was housed with a pair of budgies (male/female couple) and they were picking on him and obviously didn’t want him around.  I really had my heart set on a green budgie so it was quite lucky for me and him. Also very lucky for Roswell to have a new playmate!

I have never seen one of these shiny things before but I like it. My new abode will do.

A Tribute to Eric

It has been almost 6 months now since Eric left us to live in the land of millet and swings.

We brought Eric home at the same time as Monty, we watched them both in the Pet Shop and saw that Monty followed Eric whenever he jumped from perch to perch in the cage. It would have been a shame to buy just one of them and leave their friend behind, so we didn’t – well we were looking for a pair of budgies.

Eric was a fun little guy and a very pretty recessive pied sky blue budgie.

He loved his swing – every night at 9.30 he would jump on it for “Budgie Bed time”. But Eric never sang or head bobbed (we thought he was just quiet), however he had a healthy appetite (especially for millet) and was great friends with Monty – they preened each other and Monty fed Eric, Eric put up with Monty’s bossiness and over-excitedness.

We only had him for two months before he passed away but we’re glad that he got to spend those two months with us and with Monty.

Monty didn’t sing or head-bob in front of the mirror for a whole week after Eric died – he was in mourning or whatever passes for bereavement for a budgie.

After a week we got Monty two new budgie friends – Snowy and Roswell and with the later addition of Jerry it sure is a lively house.

I have put together a selection of my favourite photographs of Eric, some with his best bud Monty and some of him just having fun and EATING – Eric loved to munch.

The SWING – Eric loved doing this.

Mr Monty why do you keep dropping millet over the edge, it’s a waste!

Let me introduce you to my Nine feathered fiends

(Edited: 18th April 2011 to include Sky, Blueboy, Lilek, Custard and Hector)

This blog is going to be all about my four Nine budgies.  Monty, Snowy, Jerry and Roswell…+ Sky, Blueboy, Lilek, Custard and Hector

This is Monty, he is the King and was here first, he’s a normal pet type budgie from a pet shop.  We originally got him in November 2009 with Eric who sadly passed away on 23rd January this year.  Eric and Monty were best friends.

This is Roswell, he’s an exhibition type bird and is a lot bigger than Monty, he’s from a breeder. We got him at the end of January 2010 to keep Monty company.

This is Jerry, he’s young, lively and pretty cheeky, we got him on 13th March 2010 from a pet shop to keep Roswell company!

This is Snowy, we got him at the same time as Roswell from the same breeder, he’s best friends with Monty also he also likes to play with Jerry, much to Monty and Roswell’s annoyance.

This is Sky, he and Blueboy arrived together on 5th October 2010 (our wedding anniversary!) we rehomed them from a nice lady as she did not have time to take care of them.

Here we have Blueboy, as I said he arrived with Sky on 5th October 2010, Blueboy likes to ping the bars a LOT!

This is Lilek (I call him Dumpling as he waddles and is slightly more round than the other budgies, not in a fat way but a cute way!) he arrived on 10th October 2010. His owner had previously had another budgie kept with Lilek but that budgie flew away so she wanted to rehome him with other budgies so he would be more happy.

This is Custard, we’re still not 100% sure on his/her sex but she squawks a lot and has attached herself to the Hunky Roswell so we’re saying she’s female! She arrived with Hector on 1st January 2011 (Happy new year us!)
This is Hector (he’s on the left!), as said before, he arrived with Custard on 1st January 2011.  Hector is bestest friends with Blueboy and they can often be seen flying around together, preening and feeding eachother!
